Welcome to the Kidz Charts Blog, we're so glad you've decided to visit! I'm Krystal, the President of KidzCharts.com. I'm a busy Mom and I developed this fun and easy program not only to target specific negative behaviors in my children, but also to simplify our lives and lower our stress levels.
Since I'll be talking about the seven of us in many of these blog posts I thought it was only fair to let you know a little about each one of us. We are a unique and diverse family, much like yours I would suppose. Each person has their own interests and abilities and I hope this post will give you a little insight into each of us.
We have 5 children between the two of us. Gage, Paige and Hailey are mine from a previous marriage and live with us full time. Katelyn and Joseph are Matt's, also from a previous marriage and only live with us part time. So we're kind of like the Brady Bunch...only minus one child. We have certainly blended our families together. For the most part, the kids get along very well together, it's very fun to watch them play and interact!
We love to do things and go places as a family. Naturally we get a few looks from passers-by since we're toting around 5 children. Often we are asked how our kids are so well behaved and well mannered. How in the world do we manage with 5 kids?!? Structure, routine, lots of love, positive reinforcement and discipline. Let them be a part of things, let them help decide rewards and punishments. After being asked by so many people how we do it, we decided that we had to develop a flexible and powerful system that would adapt to different families and lifestyles. This is how KidzCharts.com was born!
About Us:
Matt and I are both 32, divorced and were adopted as children. We met as teenagers and were first introduced to the idea of a point system at that time. We didn't realize it at the time but positive reinforcement and routine have a HUGE effect on children's behavior. After re-uniting 15 years later, we began noticing more negative actions in our children. Talking back, lack of manners/respect and inappropriate ways to vent anger and not following directions were some key targeted behaviors. We talked and talked about what we could do to fix the problem and we developed a program in our home that worked perfect for us.
Gage - 11 years old, 5th grader and avid gamer. Likes to read, build model cars and shoot his bb gun at the ever irritating woodpecker that wakes him every morning at 6am. Gage is very attentive, organized, pays close attention to detail and is very curious how the adult world works. Whenever there is a family business idea or financial matters that we are willing to share, Gage is willing to listen attentively in the background and soak in the information and interactions.
Gage's grades began to drop following my divorce, and we also noticed more negative behaviors popping up. He began arguing with me, talking back and fighting with his siblings more. With KidzCharts.com, his behavior and grades have dramatically improved and he can't wait to see how many reward points he has at the end of the day for good behavior.
Paige - 10 years old, 4th grader. Likes to write, do crafts and help Mom in the kitchen. Paige has a natural knack for math and science and is an intelligent, bubbly and curious child. If left to her own devices Paige will paint rocks, build zip-lines from the loft, find and name pet-trees or a million other creative and sometimes ornery ideas.
Paige sometimes has a problem with her attitude and throws tantrums. After seeing what good behavior and a good attitude can do for her, Paige now blows off steam in more appropriate ways and loves tracking her daily progress at the KidzCharts.com kid's site. The progress we've seen with Paige is amazing. We were very concerned that this behavior would follow into her teen years but now we're confident Paige has learned how to handle her emotions and attitude.
Hailey - 7 years old, 2nd Grader and future artist or fashion model. Likes to paint, get dirty and her absolute favorite chore is scrubbing their toilet! Hailey is a very outgoing young lady and she already shows strong leadership abilities and solid morals. She understands people very well for only being around them seven years.
Hailey can also have quite the "tude" sometimes and would often not completed her chores very well or not at all. Now Hailey knows better ways to express herself, minds her manners and can't wait to check the KidzCharts.com kids site every day to see what her chore for the day is!
Katelyn - 6 years old, 1st Grader and full of questions. Likes to learn about everything, help Daddy with his projects and play little mother hen to baby brother Joseph! Katelyn also shows a natural knack for math and science and has recently been experimenting with 'abstract art' in her drawings. There is nothing more interesting than a six year olds take on abstract art.
Katelyn wasn't used to having 3 older siblings and initially had a hard time "sharing" Daddy. Katelyn now LOVES earning her reward points and picking her reward on the KidzCharts.com kids site. Family games and outings where everyone can be together are her favorites!
Joseph - 2 years old, full of energy and spunk. Likes Thomas the Train, pulling the dog's tail and following Daddy absolutely everywhere he goes. Joseph is still a bit young for the KidzCharts.com system, but he is learning about positive and negative interactions by watching his siblings. Joseph has easily grasped the concept that good behavior gets you much farther than negative behavior does!
Our children thrive on routine, always knowing exactly what is expected of them and the positive or negative consequences of their actions. Chores are done to our liking, without bickering or chaos and in turn the children earn their allowance, which they can keep track of in their piggy banks on the KidzCharts.com kids site. They can also set goals and track their progress as they reach their goal. Children learn responsibility by doing their chores, how to save their money, set goals and accomplish them. The KidzCharts.com kid's site is easy enough for even a 5 year old. Integrated with the Parent's site, the KidzCharts.com system is fun, easy and can be completely tailored to fit your family and your family's needs!
Thanks again for visiting us, I hope this post has helped you understand who we are, why we are here and what we want to help you accomplish in the very near future!
